Web Site Design Tips
It goes without saying that web site design tips are everywhere these days. For that reason I will try to concentrate on the things that will help your site succeed in the eyes of the visitors. After all, they are the ones who will ultimately judge whether or not your web site has what it takes. There are certain elements that you should get right, but making a web site for your visitors is a very good way to start.
- Site Design Tips #1:
Make the design a pleasing one. If it looks good there is a much greater chance that those who land on it will stay there. Make the navigation easy to use and intuitive too. Don’t force people to dig down three or four clicks to get to where they want to be. Most people won’t do that anyway. If they can’t reach the pages they want to reach easily, they will simply leave, so make it easy for them. - Site Design Tips #2:
Offer value on every page. It may seem difficult to offer value on a Contact Us page, for example, but it isn’t. Give every page enough thought so that you can add real value. That will please the search engines, and it will please the people too. It will also please you when the search engines rewards your site by ranking it higher, and when the people arrive on your pages in droves. - Site Design Tips #3:
Web pages usually do have to sell something, but always design yours so that they offer value and advertising to a ration of 75% value and 25% advertising at most. If you can make it 80% or 90% value, then all the better. Believe me, people will click on the advertising, however small it may be, if they feel that you have delivered real value. If, on the other hand, you fill the page with advertising and include a minimal amount of value content, don’t expect to do very well with it. - Site Design Tips #4:
Think of you visitor at all times. Put yourself in the visitor’s shoes. Try to approach your own web site as if you are seeing it for the first time. Is it appealing to the eye? Is it easy to navigate around? Does it have good, valuable and interesting content? Do I feel that the site is worth visiting again? If you can truthfully answer “yes” to all or most of these questions, then you are probably on the right track. - Site Design Tips #5:
Think of your visitor first with every feature of your web site. Yes, this is little more than an expansion on number 4, but it cannot be overstated. Put your visitors first and they will put you first in return. That’s success!
