Keywords and websites

Adding content that makes a difference – keyword rich articles are the best SEO strategy.

In order to get the most value out of each piece of writing on your site, it is important to understand what keywords you should focus on and how they work as it relates to search engine optimisation.

Before you write anything, you need to research what people are going to search on to find your site. Why? Because if you just write articles that do not have a focused audience or topic, no one will ever find it using a search engine. The goal of adding content to your site is to have it drive traffic via search engines. Unless it is focused content on specific keywords, it will not happen.

We recommend the Google Adwords free keyword tool located at:
https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

This tool allows you to enter in a word or phrase that best describes your site and will provide you a list of keywords you can use to drive potential searchers to your site. Another great way to use this tool is to see what your competition is using for keywords. Use the website content option and examine the content of a site similar to the one you are building. Between these two methods you should be able to come up with a list of focused keywords or phrases that best defines your site and its content. You can then write your article targetting these keywords.

Selecting keywords

Once you have selected your keywords, you can start writing your articles. Applying Search engine optimisation techniques for your keywords requires the use of a simple keyword density formula. This involves taking the total word count and dividing it by the number of times your keywords show up. You generally want a three to four percent keyword density to make your article more valuable with the search engines. Use of keywords in the header or title of the article is also more valuable then within the body of the article.
