Choosing a Web Site Design Company
Does your business need a web site design company? Once you’ve decided that it’s time to break out onto the information super highway, it’s also time to choose a web site design company.
Most of the web site design companies offering their services are sensible and competent. They will provide clients with a good working web site at an affordable price. Some are better than others, of course, but most of them are honest and hard working. Some are not. These are the ones that can give the unsuspecting client a big headache. So, how can someone who doesn’t know a lot about web design tell the difference?
Start at the beginning. What does the company need in its web site? Does it need to sell off the page, or does it simply need an informational online brochure type web site? The answer can mean a huge difference in costs. The more dynamic a web site is, the more likely it will be that it needs regular maintenance, and that means money spent.
Check out as many web design companies as you can and start to evaluate them. Look at the company’s portfolio. They should have one online showing off work that they’ve done previously. If they don’t have an online portfolio, ask yourself why. Read any testimonials and even contact the people who wrote them if you can. They are past clients and should be able to give an honest opinion of the company. If you have difficulty in contacting past clients, ask the company to help you. Most companies will jump at the chance as they will have nothing to hide.
Check out the prices charged too. Expensive doesn’t always translate to good, and cheap doesn’t always mean bad either. If you find a company that has done other web sites in the same industry as yours, and the price is acceptable, that’s a good sign. The company is likely to know what your needs are. Don’t be swayed by flashy designs though. They may look great, but are they hiding something?
The web site design company you choose has to be able to meet all of your needs. Can it? If you will be selling off the page, does the company have experience in setting up ecommerce sites? Also, does the company offer any of the extras that you will need, such as copywriting and promotional and marketing services? There’s a lot to consider, but it’s important to think of everything to get it right first time.
Your chosen web site design company doesn’t have to be located in your area, though it might help if they are. Meeting the people who will work on your web site face to face is always a good thing; it offers greater peace of mind to know the face behind the voice on the telephone, or the email message.
