Using Digg For Business

Using Digg for business is not a new idea. It’s been around for a surprisingly long time – as time goes on the Internet, that is. However, using Digg, and many of the other similar Web 2.0 social media sites to enhance business dealings is something that many business people are unsure of. Most of them, especially the older ones, have the feeling that they have somehow missed out on the “new” revolution. It needn’t be so.

Bookmarking websites

Digg is a bookmarking site. That means that you can bookmark a web site, or a particular page of a web site, for others to see and visit. You can also bookmark an article you have written about your business, which may be hosted on an article directory. It doesn’t have to be an article either. It can be a video on a video hosting site perhaps, or a picture on a photo sharing site.

The important thing here is to know that you are sharing your experience with others. You are saying that something is important to you and it may also be important to others. You are using social media, in this case Digg, for business potential optimisation, in other words.

The users of Digg can be a highly critical lot. They expect high quality in the items that are dugg. For this reason you should use the service carefully, for it can be a double-edged sword. While others can digg your bookmarked item, they can also bury it. If they don’t like it, or don’t like your attitude, they can vote against it and it will go down.

Consider the title of the piece you intend to bookmark as the most important element. This is the hook, the means you have to entice the viewer to look further. If your title is dull and uninspiring, don’t expect many to look further. But if it is fresh and interesting, dynamic and exciting, you might do very well indeed.

The best case scenario of using Digg for business might be where you bookmark an item every day, and every day it winds up on the front page of Digg. Should this happen to you, and don’t really expect it to happen every day – maybe occasionally if you’re lucky, but not every day – then you will find that floods of highly targeted traffic pours into your web site. Should this happen, expect to do very well indeed!

Using Digg for business can be extremely effective if done properly. There will be highs and lows, and the occasional “Oh my God!” moments. If you are serious about doing business online, or even offline, you need Digg for business in your life.
