How To Optimise Website Elements
It is necessary to optimise website elements if you hope to have your website rank high in the search engines. Many people who are quite capable of producing good solid websites, cringe at the though of optimisation. For them it seems far too technical and difficult. It is not. Knowing how to optimise website elements is a very good skill to have. Here are some of the more important things to look out for.
1. The main theme of a website is usually based on a main keyword phrase. Using this phrase as the website domain name gives the website an extra boost in the search engine rankings. It also helps anyone searching for the keyword phrase as the domain name will be bolded when it comes up in the search results. This makes this technique a winning one for both the webmaster and the searcher.
2. Each page of a website should revolve around one main keyword phrase. This keyword phrase should also be the document title. In that way the page can be accessed by typing the website domain name followed by document title, which is also the keyword phrase, and ending with the .html suffix.
3. The page title should also contain the keyword phrase for that page. This is perhaps the most important part of any on page optimisation you can do for a website. This is part of the underlying HTML code, but the title is also seen in the web browser on the top blue bar, and it is used by the search engines too.
4. Some websites have dozens of meta tags. They are all mostly useless and quite unnecessary. However, there are two meta tags that should be used on every website page. They are the description tag and the keyword tag. It is true that the major search engines no longer give much credence to the keyword tags, but some of the smaller ones still do. The description tag is used by many search engines as the listings description, so it is worthwhile taking time to compose it properly.
5, The visible page should start with an H1 tag containing the page title. The page title should contain the main keyword phrase for that page. The body of the page should also have the main keyword phrase it the first paragraph and throughout the body of the text to a density of around 1% so that it reads naturally and is obviously themed on the main keyword phrase. There are other ways to optimise website elements, but these are the minimum basics you should perform.
