More about Google Images…
This week we look at Google Images
As you may have already seen, Google has rolled out some new enhancements to its image search to make it easier to search and locate the images you want more quickly. These new features have been introduced in Google image search or Google Images.
Dense tiled layout
This layout is in the form of tiles enabling you to look at lots of images at once on one screen making it easier to find what you are looking for without having to scroll pages and pages.
Instant scrolling
This is a great feature to images. You are now able to scroll between pages of images without losing yourself in the images. One scrolling page will display up to 1,000 images so you have a clear view of the images. Don’t worry though, Google have added small discreet page numbers just so you can keep track of where you are.
Large thumbnail previews
Large previews of thumbnails are now available to view on the results page. This was introduced and designed for modern browsers and high resolution screens for ease of viewing.
Information thumbnail
A great new enhancement is the appearance of a hover pane. When you move your mouse over a given thumbnail image, the hover pane will be displayed and show a larger preview of the image, more information about the image you are viewing and other specific features including similar images.
Viewing Page
This is a great addition. Once you click on the image, you are re-directed to a new landing page that displays a large image in context, with the website it is hosted on visible right behind the image. As soon as you click anywhere outside the image, you are right in the original page where you can view information about source and context.
Optimised keyboard navigation
Another great feature, optimised keyboard navigation enables much faster scrolling through many pages by taking advantage of standard web keyboard shortcuts – Page Up/Page Down. This has been introduced so you get the information you need quickly.
